Types of Brushes

Types of brush & their strength!

Blow-drying hair with brushes.

To give shape when blowing with a brush, adequate tension is required while using the hairdryer.

Placing hair smoothly on the brush, prevents it from dropping out…let’s learn about the many types of brushes & their purpose of usage!

We need to understand how brushes works on hair sections.

** The important point is to make it a habit of thorough blow-out of the entire section; from roots to ends, to be able to achieve strong hold & shape from the blow-drying.

By doing so, you can change the form of the shape desired.

Denman brush

  • Good for Straight tension

Scooping up a lot of hair at once is possible as first row of the brush is slightly rough. You will get a good straight work when hair is firmly gripped on by applying tension. Still as hair is natural, it is possible to get tension and luster by utilizing the surface of the rubber part.

Skeleton brush

  • Good at lifting the root

Since front portion is rather rough, hair is less likely to tangle, it is possible to scoop from the root. For this reason, brush is suitable to place close to the root. Compared to Denman brush, if tension is not applied to the hair, it is prone to rough finish.

Roll brush

  • Good at roundness and putting curls

Surface part of the brush part is finer, it is easy to apply tension to the hair. Since the brush itself is round, by immersing or winding the hair in the brush, it is possible to give them firm curls

How to choose a suitable pair of scissors?

How should the suitable pair of scissors feel in my hands?

The most important thing that you should take note of is:

– Deciding what type of quality you wish to purchase..

– How it feels in your hand & the comfort to your whole body posture..

Why is it so important to find the right pair of scissors?

The unsuitable pair of scissor might cause future problems such as:

– Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,

– Tendonitis (inflammation of a tendon),

– Bursitis,

– Rotator Cuff (tendons stabilizing the shoulders) &

Why are there lighter and heavier types of scissors?

There are many different types of scissors and their difference is weight, length, balance & comfort.

Some people like a heavier pair of scissors, while most hairstylist prefer the lighter ones as they do not need as much pressure on their hands when working long hours.

Be very sure of your preference, the weight of the scissor must be comfortable and you must have full control from the tip to the whole blade. This decision would be for long term as certain habitual movements are difficult to change.

What is the right length of scissor to suit myself?

Most scissors range  from 4.5 inch to max of 7.5 inch

To beginning with your pair of scissors, you should measure the length of the blade against your middle finger, and the overall length of the scissor against the extended palm of your hand.

Most women are more comfortable with a pair of 5 inch or 5.5 inch scissors, while most men prefer a 5.5 inch or 6.0 inch scissors.

Longer scissors such as 6.5 inch to 7.5 inch scissors are good for scissor over comb work and longer styles while 4.5 inch scissors are for detailed work.

What is a true left-handed pair of scissors?

A true left handed scissors is that when grasping on the scissors, the cutting edge of the top blade is on the left-hand side of the blade.

The trouble with a left-handed stylist using a right-handed scissors is that it puts more stress and tension on the hand to be able to use it to cut without flipping the hair.
